eFAST Ultrasound provides various advantages within Point of Care Ultrasound: The eFAST (extended focused assessment with sonography for trauma) allows you to exclude free fluid (pericardium and peritoneal), pleural effusions and pneumothorax.
In this POCUS course video Dr. Chris Yap demonstrates how to position the probe in relation to the patient to assess the Right Upper Quadrant, Left Upper Quadrant, Subcostal View, Suprapubic View and asses the anterior thorax. The examination with the GE ultrasound machine (VenueTM Family) also shows the anatomical relationships in each of these areas and gives insights on how to exclude pathology.
Dr. Chris Yap is Emergency Medicine Consultant at Northern General Hospital in Sheffield, which is the regional Major Trauma Centre for South Yorkshire. He has a strong interest and high expertise in Point of Care Ultrasound.
