About Chris Yap
Originally from the sunny island of Singapore, Chris now lives and works in the outdoor city, Sheffield, just next to the Peak District in England.
He is a Consultant in Emergency Medicine at the Northern General Hospital in Sheffield. The hospital is a Major Trauma Centre for the South Yorkshire region.
As part of a lifelong quest to advance his POCUS (point of care ultrasound) skills, he obtained a Diploma in Medical Ultrasound from Teesside University.
He has a passion for making POCUS learning simple and loves demonstrating that shades of grey are not all bad. He has organised POCUS courses locally and nationally and has been a faculty member on a number of international courses. Of late, he seems to get quite grumpy when POCUS users don’t look after their machines (see #pocuscrime & #cleanyourprobe) and is an advocate for good governance in the documentation and storing of POCUS scans.
He is still waiting for the perfect handheld ultrasound machine that will replace the stethoscope to arrive on his doorstep.
Outside of medicine, he has splitboarded in the Alps and the Arctic Circle and is still waiting for the day when a snowboarding company will spot his talent.
For some unknown reason, that has yet to happen.
He also loves a bike ride in either road or mountain form and has cycled
- from London to Sheffield for charity
- 100 miles from Sheffield to Cleethorpes just for fish and chips
- round the hilly Peak District for 11 hours on a mountain bike because his mate fancied it.
