Dr. Peter Balint is a qualified rheumatologist and physiotherapist from Budapest. In this podcast, Peter talks about how ultrasound imaging has become a huge part of his examinations, how it has benefited his diagnosis and treatment for his patients but also the limitations he has come across in sonography.
In this podcast, Peter goes on to explain how ultrasound has helped him examine different types of joints: from this, he was able to understand and see what was causing the pain or swelling within the patient joint.
Using an ultrasound probe made it possible for rheumatologists, like Peter, be able to examine hip joints and hip prosthesis. By using this method medical professionals can examine and determine if there is a build-up of fluid and therefore decide the best treatment and whether or not there is an infection.
Peter discusses that even though there are several benefits of using ultrasound in his examinations, he believes that there is still a lot of work to be done within ultrasound to further its ability to diagnosis non-specific areas. For example, if the patient is suffering from an arthritic hand, it becomes a lot more difficult to identify what is causing the pain.
