Watch this live demo to learn how to carry out an ultrasound scan of a supraspinatus as part of a shoulder examination.
Research Physiotherapist and Sonographer, Mark Maybury starts off the video by explaining some of the arm positions that you can use. These include, neutral, with the elbow extended, hand on the back pocket or with the hand down resting on the patients back.
The supraspinatus can be found in two ways. The first way can be by crawling up the bicep tendon starting from the bicipital groove. As the probe is following the bicep tendon up the arm, Mark explains how you must also angle your probe slightly to view the supraspinatus tendon in a neutral position.
The other way in which you can view the supraspinatus tendon is by starting at the AC joint. From here you tip your probe forwards until you come across a rounded structure; which is the supraspinatus tendon.
Watch the video below to visually learn how to scan the supraspinatus tendon and to identify any tears, rips or other faults within the tendon.
