How To Ultrasound The Elbow - Posterior Aspect

Posterior Aspect

Mark Maybury, Research Physiotherapist Sonographer, presents a short video on how to scan the posterior elbow.

The main reasons why you would scan the posterior elbow is either for a joint effusion or less commonly a tricep enthesopathy.

Starting with his probe approximately midsection of the humerus, he moves the probe gently towards the olecranon in a transverse position and then pans back to the starting position again.

Mark then cuts to the ultrasound feed to demonstrate how this appears on the screen and demonstrates the scan again whilst viewing the ultrasound screen. Watch the posterior elbow ultrasound demonstration here.
