The Erector Spinae plane block is a relatively new (2016) paraspinal fascial plane block. It was first described to treat patients with chronic pain of the chest wall. It has been used for the rib fracture analgesia, and for breast, thoracic and abdominal surgery. The true full mechanism of action of this novel block is unknown and clinical trials are ongoing, but due to the simple nature of the block, it is being used more frequently for an increasing number of indications. In this video Dr Pawa will show you how to perform the Erector Spinae Plane Block using a high frequency probe to obtain the best image quality and demonstrate the benefit of virtual convex.
